Dedicated midwives appointed for Continuity of Carer
Two Continuity of Carer midwives have been appointed by Birmingham and Solihull United Maternity and Newborn Partnership (BUMP) to support the implementation of the recommendations from Better Birth across Birmingham and Solihull.
Danielle and Kathryn will help ensure that continuity of carer is embedded within practice. The midwives will work with teams at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, supporting them to provide continuity of carer throughout the woman’s pregnancy, birth and postnatal period to ensure her medical, psychological and social needs are assessed and holistically cared for.
Carmel McCalmont, Director of Midwifery for BUMP said: “I am delighted to welcome Danielle and Kathryn to BUMP where they will lead the development and implementation of Better Births and the NHS Long Term Plan recommendations on continuity of carer. Delivering continuity of carer is a priority for the Local Maternity System and I am sure that these midwives will be invaluable in helping both organisations and women to reap the rewards of continuity of carer.”
